Transportation Vote, Donations Accepted

The Clarkstown Board of Education voted to reduce the number of Superintendent’s Conference Days when bus transportation is provided for private school students. Previously, the district had been providing transportation for the five Superintendent’s Conference days built into the school calendar. At Tuesday night’s meeting by a five to one vote, they reduced to three the number of days when bus service would be offered.

The Superintendent’s Conference Days listed on the 2013-2014 district calendar are Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 3 and 4, Tuesday, Nov. 5, Monday, Feb. 5, 2014 and Friday, March 14, 2014. Information on which two days transportation would not be provided was not immediately available. Board members noted that public and private school calendars are not exactly the same and often parents of students attending other schools have to make alternate transportation arrangements.

In other action, the board approved several donations from the Clarkstown North High School PTSA valued at $825.  The organization donated 10 yards of mulch for the landscaped section in front of the main building; paint, primer and painting supplies for the exterior of the security booth in the Annex parking lot and black privacy slats for the chain link fence surrounding the dumpster outside the Annex cafeteria.
