Derek Jeter To Retire after 2014 Season

New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter has announced that he will retire after the 2014 season, the New York Daily News reported.

Jeter made the announcement on his Facebook page.

"Now is the time for the next chapter. I have new dreams and I want new challenges. There are many things I want to do in business and in philanthropic work, in addition to focusing more on my personal life and starting a family of my own," Jeter wrote.

"But before that, I want to soak in every moment of every day this year, so I can remember it for the rest of my life," Jeter continued.

The Facebook post already had been liked thousands of times and fans were expressing their appreciation for Jeter's time as a Yankee: "Thank you for everything Derek it's been a pleasure being a fan of Yankees and following your career since 1996. Go out with a bank man!!" wrote Michael Powers.
