New City-Suffern-Congers Softball Team Captures Regional Crown

The 9-10 all-star team went 13-1 over four tournaments this summer

The New City-Suffern-Congers 9-10 softball all-star team beat Delaware, 5-3, Thursday night to win the Eastern Regional Tournament in Old Forge, PA.

Since younger age brackets don’t all have World Series tournaments, the regional is the highest level for the 9-10 softball age group. The tournament was made up of teams from eight East Coast states.

Samantha Kaner pitched all six innings in the victory for NCSC, giving up five hits and striking out 10. She also went 2-3 with two runs and an RBI.

Megan Keaveney went 2-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Kristen Tarantino drove in one run and Kaitlyn Fudge recorded two hits in the win. Halle Medici added a key hit, and Coach Eddie Fudge said great defense by Kimberly Kaufman and Kaitlyn Keane help lead NCSC to victory.

NCSC went 13-1 this summer, with undefeated runs through the district, section and state tournaments. The one loss NCSC suffered this summer came in pool play of the regional tournament to the Pennsylvania champs.

The team will be honored by the Rockland County Legislature on Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m., .
