ELLEN BUKSTEL To Perform In New City Sunday, March 17th

South Florida based singer-songwriter and political activist to perform for the Borderline Folk Music Club.

Howdy Friends,

Our next concert at The Borderline is scheduled for Sunday, March 17th at 2:00 PM.  It will take place at the New City Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 200 – Congers Road, New City, NY 10956.  We can entitle it “Broward County Comes To Rockland County” or “Florida Comes To New York”.  That is because both, our headliner ELLEN BUKSTEL as well as our opener Arlene Boumel are coming up here from that area.

Ellen Bukstel is truly a star in the world of folk music and has burst into national prominence with her performances for President Obama at his campaign rallies and at the Democratic National Convention.

A veteran to the stage since childhood, Ellen Bukstel has been recognized with more than 40 songwriting and music video awards and acknowledgements since 2002. – A rare, bold, multi-faceted break the mold original, real deal maverick, Laying her emotions bare, she puts her passions on the line, without fear, bringing hope, laughter, tears, biting wit and inspiration to everything she writes and performs. This happy-sad, life embracing, fear-overcoming emotional schizophrenia captures the spirit of modern independent music making.

Challenging her listeners to laugh, dig deep and embrace the wild emotional rollercoaster we call life with every daring turn of phrase and without fear, she makes the world perk up and pay attention with straight talking, heart on her sleeve, from her soul to yours, lyrics. From hilariously funny to moving compositions of love, remembrance, and social awareness, her songs always hit home and routinely bring her audiences to laughter and tears – sometimes both simultaneously.

An activist in the truest sense, her fundraising music videos have collectively helped to raise close to a hundred million dollars for community causes such as Housing the Homeless and Assisting Victims of Domestic Violence and Human Rights.

In addition to being a performer, Ellen is also a presenter of folk music with her series called “The Shack In The Back” located on her home property in Fort Lauderdale.  Many famous musicians have appeared there. She recently hosted the “South Florida Festivus” which featured a songwriting competition.

Opening the show is Arlene Boumel who is no stranger to the world of folk music.  She started singing at a summer camp in the Poconos owned by her parents back in the 1960s.  She is a founding member of the RMMGA guitar forum on Newsgroups, where every member is known for their excellent acoustic guitar work.  Although not a professional musician, (she is a psychotherapist by trade), Arlene has a sweet melodic voice which gives a unique interpretation to songs written by many prominent artists.  And yes, she has written a few of her own as well.  Arlene is the President of the Broward County Folk Club and hosts a series called “Boumel House Concerts” at her home in Coral Springs.  She has hosted many of the same performers who have played The Borderline.

Both of these gifted musicians are flying up here just to perform at our concert.  They will not be appearing anywhere else in the area during their brief stay.  If you do not catch them at The Borderline you will be missing an opportunity to hear some of the best talent on the folk music scene today.  It is always a thrill for us to present artists from other regions of the country and in the past, these shows have been among our very best.

Since we are anticipating a sellout crowd we strongly urge you to make advance reservations for this show.  Admission is our usual $20 per person ($15.00 for Borderline & Pinewoods members), and we ask that you bring a cold pot luck dessert dish to share with 4 other people.  Please remember that we are an alcohol free venue.

Reservations can be made by e-mail at solz1@optonline.net or by calling Sol Zeller at (845) 354-4586.
