The Solomons, chain of islands famous for the beauty of the sea, is nestled in the Southern Pacific Ocean and lies to the East of Papua New Guinea. The Solomon Islands include nearly one thousand islands that stretch across a total landmass area of 28,400 sq kms. Islands offer unblemished tourist attractions and comprise of flamboyant palm fringed beaches, sparkling coral reefs, blue waters and an astounding view of the briny sea.

The isles did not feature in the list of  the major tourist destinations for a long time because, in the past, they were notorious for their hideous headhunting tribes. There are six main islands situated between New Guinea and Vanuatu, these include Choiseul, New Georgia, Isabel, Malaita, Guadalcanal and Makira.

The islands are supposed to have been colonized for about 5000 years and European discovery reportedly occurred in 1568. During the Second World War, all sides cherished the strategic position of the Solomons.
