United Water...Stop the DEMONIZING....Please

Seems like our local water company, United Water is being unfairly demonized  by leftist leaning environmental groups joined by those in the political arena. Let's set the record straight. United Water and it's predecessors have delivered safe, drinkable water to all our homes in Rockland County for decade upon decade. We have taken showers, flushed our toilets, washed our clothes, watered our lawns and filled our pools, all without any interruption that I can remember over a period of close to 40 years, living here. Clean, safe water
As I understand them, these are the FACTS. Plain and simple. A few years ago, the  NYS Public Service Commission (PSC) mandated United Water to find additional sources of supply. United Water reviewed several alternatives and decided that a Desalinization Plant was the most effective way to deliver this newly mandated supply. Seems to make a lot of sense given the location of the Hudson River, which not one politician seemed to question at the time. In fact, most supported it. Some demanded it.

Accordingly, United water built a pilot desalinization plant at a cost of over $50 million, in the location of the proposed new plant and successfully filtered over 40 million gallons of water using primarily, a reverse osmosis system also used by all bottled water companies. This process as all water processes was constantly monitored by the PSC   and  the DEC. Simple enough? The mandate for an additional source of water now seems to be satisfied? Right? WHOA. Enter the SIERRA Club and various other left wing leaning, tree hugging, so called environmentalist organizations telling us that the 40 million gallons of water filtered and monitored by the PSC  and DEC is not really safe and  you know what?, we don't need the water anyway? And even if we did, Desal is not  the way to do it and even if it was, it will cost too much and while some Desal Plants work, this one is in the wrong place. Talk about convoluted! There are over 15,000 working Desal Plants worldwide and THIS ONE, THIS ONE in Rockland County will not be effective?  We have now entered the realm  of insane thinking............http://curiosity.discovery.com/question/how-many-desalination-plants
It is all very mind boggling. I have lived more than 7 decades relying on my State, the State of NY, to make sure I had an abundant supply of safe water and I have never been let down. Now We seem to be hearing that these environmental organizations and the politicians who joined them telling me that I should NOT TRUST  the DEC and PSC to monitor my water even though they have successfully monitored it for for my over 70 years on this earth. Instead I should now listen to the politicians, some of whom were in on the original call for additional water and stood  by in silence while United Water spent over $50 Million but now changed their minds and have become experts on how much water we need and what constitutes a safe water supply. Since when? Mind you they have no background in any of this and many of them are the reason why Rockland  County is now bankrupt. These are the same people that incompetently ran the County Nursing home into the ground and now bleeding red ink  want to sell it at a huge loss but have no takers. One of the objectors is now running for County Executive, David Fried, a career politician  who has never held a job in the private sector and floats from political job to political job, apparently wants to take over the water company and create a Water District? He has the support of none other than the Sierra Club. Not the DEC not the PSC, the SIERRA Club who has zero experience running any company no less a water company.
What is very interesting to me is that public opinion for some unknown reason seems to be siding with people who have no background in water management and zero experience in running anything, and I mean ANYTHING, successfully, the same people who bankrupted the County and made us one of the highest taxed Counties in the United States.
Water is a serious business. We cannot live without it. I remember one drought in Rockland and believe me it was not pleasant. My point is that we have a decades, if not a century of experience, with this operating and monitoring model. The PSC  and DEC seem to be doing a good job. Our past experience with United Water is exceptional. They are a private organization providing good paying jobs, some of which are union. They pay plenty of taxes and are active in various charities. But more importantly they do their job, supplying clean safe water to our homes, on demand. This is indisputable.  They are the one with the track record. United Water is the one that has performed. The politicians haven't, in fact the politicians have done a lousy job. So I ask you, why do we listen to these politicians like David Fried,  who have zero background in water management and failed us miserably instead of the local water company, the PSC and the DEC who have a decades long history of success supplying safe water to our families? Our water supply is too important to turn over to failed politicians and left wing environmental groups. Please think about it. Support United Water. They are doing a good job.
