New City Little League Hosts Challenger Players

NCLL coaches, players welcome Challenger to Zukor Park.

New City Little League hosted players from the Rockland Challenger Little League Baseball program for games at Zukor Park in New City.

The Challenger players took the field with support from NCLL coaches and players. After the games, the Challenger players were treated to hot dogs and other refreshments.

Established in 1993, Rockland County District 18 Challenger Little League travels to all Little Leagues in the county, playing on weekends from mid-April through the end of June.

The Challenger Division of Little League is a program for developmentally and physically challenged youth, helping them to enjoy the full benefits of Little League participation in an athletic environment structured to their abilities.

Little League Challenger Division provides therapeutic and socialization benefits of participating in sports, the strengthening of participants’ self-esteem and providing players an opportunity to mainstream into other divisions of play and the disciplines of teamwork, sportsmanship and fair play.

Challenger Division participants play on Little League fields with the same equipment used by Little League teams and have the opportunity to experience the joys of pulling together as a team, being cheered and earning awards for their achievements.

Coming Up: Challenger players take the field at West Nyack Little League at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
