On Sunday, Aug. 26, the ., and other Rockland community treatment and prevention agencies held their 5th Annual Recovery Rally to help educate and support people affected by substance abuse disorders, educate the public that addiction is a treatable disease, and celebrate the lives of those who have gained and sustained recovery. The Rally was held at Provident Bank Park, 1 Provident Bank Park Drive, Pomona, NY 10970.  The day included a baseball game between the Rockland Boulders and New Jersey Jackals, food, activities and information regarding Prevention, Treatment and Recovery Services in Rockland County.

The Recovery Rally was the vehicle to raise public awareness of the fact that addiction is a preventable and treatable disease. The rally helps to reduce discrimination against addicted individuals, provides individuals and families with an opportunity to celebrate recovery.

Rockland County District Attorney Tom Zugibe kicked off the Rally with RCADD Executive Director, Ruth A. Bowles addressing a crowd of over a hundred people on the importance of community collaboration to reduce stigma, prevent underage drinking and advocate for those individuals and families needing support by providing education, information and referral services.

Kathleen Katt, RCADD Recovery Service Coordinator, Rally Chairperson, threw out the first pitch of the game to a roaring crowd of Recovery supporters.  Many community members received Rally journals with information regarding prevention, treatment and recovery services in Rockland County, along with t-shirts and other promotional items.

The 2012 Recovery Rally Committee considers this year’s Rally the most successful since 3,000 people attended the game and received vital information on this critical Public Health concern.

Special thanks to all who contributed to making the day so successful.
