I agree 100%. I was there as well last Sat. and brought my high school age daughter. Most of her…Read More White Plains High School friends were there with their families. It was a great day for everyone.

Rob Astorino claims "Families don't go to Playland anymore." But when I was there on a…Read More rainy cold opening day on Saturday, I was SURROUNDED by nothing but families - even HIS family was there. They all came out in the lousy weather to have a good time. Parents and kids and grandparents and every combo of aunt uncle cousin etc. you could imagine, all different colors, ethnicities, cultural backgrounds, many different languages being spoken, everyone happy to see the place open again, getting along, smiling, having a good time. I think I was about the only person there who *wasn't* with kids. Families families families. But...don't you know...families don't go to Playland anymore? People love Playland. They want to see it brought back to life as a vibrant amusement park, not dismantled for a grassy field and indoor sports facility.

You must be the only person in Westchester that doesn't have wonderful feelings/memories about…Read More Playland. It is so sad.

I think it is time you check your calendar for the next street fair.It is Saturday of LABOR DAY…Read More WEEKEND and alot of people will still be away since the children do not go back to school until September 9th 2013.And an FYI yesterday was Greek Easter.Shame on you.I am sure if it was a Jewish holiday the people would be all up in arms/

The New City Street Fair was once again a huge success yesterday! The weather cooperated and…Read More brought out countless families with their children to enjoy the music, attractions and unique items that our vendors sold. This event would not have been so successful without the hard work, dedication and team work of our Board members and event coordinator, Julianne Williams. I especially want to thank Roxie, who chaired this event. You did an incredible job and many vendors came up to me to say how pleased they were with sales and are looking forward to participating in the Sept. 2nd Fair. Also, many thanks to our elected officials, Clarkstown Police and Town of Clarkstown employees, many of whom I saw yesterday enjoying the festivities. Your help in putting together this Fair and cleaning up afterwards is always appreciated.

The New City StreetFair was a trememdous success; and, a fantastic time was had by all who attended!…Read More A great big shout-out of thanks to the many people who pulled together to make this event as special and enjoyable as it was, from my fellow Chamber board members, to the merchants, vendors, Town and County officials and employees, and the Clarkstown PD! A special thank you to Gary (NCCC president) and Alice (NCCC board member)....your help and support was over the top....Looking forward to our next StreetFair on Sunday, September 2nd!....To our friends at PATCH....thank you for the lovely article and pics!....Here's hoping that this event continues to grow in our community, bringing everyone down to our "street," while enjoying all the wonderful treasures that each and every one of the exhibitors has to offer!

Just as St. Lawrence stuck with Ramapo…Read More with The Boulders Baseball Staduim, United Water will do the same for all or Rockland on a much more massive scale.

John, you have no idea what your saying. The County Executive Debate was hosted by the Rockland…Read More Water Coalition. It was held in a public space and manned by volunteers. Didn't cost a dime. The point of the debate was to get a clear picture of where the candidates stand on issues of the environment in a transparent and public venue. Have no idea where you think that is tantamount to "buying people off"?? I like to call that "Democracy" (Look it up).

I have a copy of the independent financial analysis done by EconoWest from Oregon. The report has…Read More been submitted to the DEC and Albany, as well as local officials. The report calls the economics in the DEIS not only "flawed" but seriously wrong. I also have a letter from Al Appleton (look him up) and expert in desalination and water conservation, who has called the calculations in the DEIS "laughable". United Water has high powered lobbyists in Albany and fills the first 2 rows of every public hearing with attorneys and Armani suits that make their living fighting against Governments and environmental regulation around the globe. We, the people, don't have a chance in hell fighting against that kind of money of power, unless we demand a voice in this decision.

Cindy Shops wont have the same stores that are at palisades mall. Thats why I will not patronize…Read More Shops we didnt need another supermarket with the shop rites and stop and shops simon property takes care of their jewel malls the westchester and roosevelt field it was more clarkstown that forced them to do something. They should have let Boscovs come back macys is awful at nanuet compared to palisades macys. and the paramus macys. Ihave been in this area 16 years and macys never changed in nanuet.
Cindy May 1, 2013 at 12:51 pm
I've been to the Fairway in Paramus. I was not impressed. Stop and Shop has all the organic goodies…Read More Fairway does for less money. Fairway will attract a following. The county has a good amount of people to whom price is no object and who prefer a more exclusive setting. I don't believe that segment is large enough to put Stop and Shop out of business. Stop and Shop probably will lower their prices to hold their share of customers who want value.

Just when they get all these locations with fancy logos and signs something like this happens. I…Read More should be in the sign and printing business. Geez.

I'm glad Roxie responded to the above comments and hope she clarified any questions or concerns.…Read More She is absolutely correct in saying that we have only been hosting the Fair in New City for three years and hope to continue to grow them in a way that is as large as Nyack and Suffern. Roxie did an amazing job chairing this event and I thank her for all of her hard work. It takes alot of time, hard work to put together an event such as the New City Street Fair. I would like to add a few additional comments. The signs were posted two weeks prior to the Fair, Mary. I know this because I did them myself. Also, I had numerous vendors come up to me yesterday to say what a successful day they had and are looking forward to the Sept. 2nd Fair. Our mission is to promote New City businesses and we always encourage New City businesses to purchase a booth and participate in this event. We also like to extend our invitation to out of town vendors because of their unique and different items. One final comment....last year the event did go to Second Street, but it was decided to end at First Street this year and utilize the parking lots for vendors, the stage and other kid's activities.

Hi Mary...Just as a point of clarification...The Nyack StreetFair, the Suffern StreetFair and the…Read More New City StreetFair are ALL organized by the same event coordinator, Woodwill Corporation...With Julianne Williams at the helm of that corporation, the respective chambers aid and assist quite heavily Julianne as she puts the fairs together. A big difference is that Nyack has been doing this for 30 years; New City only 3. Having said all this, with time, experience, perseverance, and participation I wholeheartedly believe that New City will be on par with Nyack and the numerous and various exhibitors that participate in their many shows throughout the year.

There is no deception here. Renee's Readers have high quality lenses that will give you much clearer…Read More vision than any drugstore reading glasses. The frames are also high quality, constructed of far superior materials than an over the counter reader which usually needs to be replaced often because they don't hold up to the daily on and off use associated with reading glasses. Over the counter reading glasses are not suitable for everybody as I have explicitly stated in several articles I have written about reading glasses. For example, please read http://reneesreaders.hubpages.com/hub/Reading-Glasses-How-to-Choose-the-Correct-Lens-Power-in-Your-Reading-Glasses
As a businesswoman and a licensed optician, who takes pride in my reputation for my straightforward honesty and technical know-how, I am offended by your accusations that I am trying to deceive anyone. Please stop in to my store and I would be more than happy to clear up any of your misconceptions.
FYI, Renee's Readers are not only available in my optical store they are available on my website.
Mark Schimmel May 8, 2013 at 07:29 pm
They may work for people with just a straight prescription meaning a magnification like the ones you…Read More can by at a drug store. If you have an astigmatism as myself and many others they would not accomplish the correct vision. They are just over priced over the counter eyeglasses which deceives the customer because they are purchasing it in an optical store.
NewCityGal May 6, 2013 at 07:21 pm
These reading glasses are not like what you buy in the drug store or Costco. The vision is really…Read More clear and the frames are made very well! I have the Loni glasses, and I absolutely love them!
