some here will surely say any drug bust is major. I found an article on that bust in the otherRead More place. if it is inaccurate please correct me. http://archive.lohud.com/article/20131024/NEWS02/310240057/12-arrested-Westchester-heroin-ring that article makes no mention of it being a major drug bust, mostly because it probably wasn't. What makes you think it was major.the amount of people? in your case they were charged with criminal possession and sale in the third degree not first degree as in this article. a-1 felony here vs b felonies there. mandatory 8-20 on 1 charge here possibly no jail time there or max of 2.5 on possession + 9 yrs on the sale. If they do the max they will probably due about the same time for their crimes as the minimum here give or take. apples and apples please. 9 of those yrs is on the sale in the 3rd which does not apply here due to the accidental nature of this case. no sting. sale, btw, appears to be 1 packet or more to someone who wants to buy it. I speak for no one buy me and that was not so major imo. if it was they would be rolling and spinning numbers on the bust like they did here This article is about distribution not selling to the junkies on the corner

some of these cases led to deaths of the drug users and some of these sellers or what ever role theyRead More played are being accused with murder charges (which is the "police expect additional charges" in the article you reference). Plus it wasn't one packet it was several thousand packets. -so in my eyes I think that's serious bust-to each his own.
Gloria R. April 24, 2014 at 03:59 pm
wrong again my friend. what it actually says in the article i linked to is "police expectRead More additional arrests" not charges-totally different. To me additional arrests indicates other people are expected to be arrested. What does it mean to you? . maybe since it was 6 months ago you could look around a bit and see and link to what if it any other arrests ever materialized. AND I never said it was one packet. I said "sale, btw, appears to be 1 packet or more to someone who wants to buy it" Not "the sale they were charged with was 1 packet" I was referencing back to "they were charged with criminal possession and sale" in the same post. sale was used in a general term. and selling 1 packet is still a sale. The article i linked to made no mention of thousands of packets and while nothing i said was inaccurate you could have posted a link to where you got your info.I also said this " I found an article on that bust in the other place. if it is inaccurate please correct me." not " I found an article on that bust in the other place. if it is accurate please correct me." which is exactly what you did . Now it is a "SERIOUS" bust !!. It might be serious, just not MAJOR You are entitled to your opinion, you are not entitled to twist, and misquote what other people say to bolster your claim. "some of these cases led to deaths of the drug users and some of these sellers or what ever role they played are being accused with murder charges" Murder 1-2 manslaghter?,Being accused by who.accused by relatives, friends, other junkies. Accused is not the same as being charged. Have they been charged and with what, If as you say, not the article, murder charges were brought against some in this bunch please link to it. don't just expect anyone to believe you, especially now. how tough is it to copy and paste link.

THese laws need to be strengthened, with violators fined $400 or more per violation to really getRead More the message across that this is not just a nuisance charge. Distracted driving really does cost lives!
James R April 17, 2014 at 05:34 pm
They should be writing tickets for this stuff every day and I agree that the fines should be steep.

I want to root for the police, I really do; but when some a-hole flies by me, nearly hits my car orRead More is tailgating and I pass a cop who does NOTHING... It really diminishes my faith. They [not all but some] pull people over for bullshit and pull the power trip on innocent individuals who truly made mistakes or non-threatening/harmful offenses. But where the hell are they when the real risks are on the road??? How about they keep their patrols going for the crappy drivers EVERYDAY, and not just some appointed safety weeks.
knee jerk April 23, 2014 at 04:56 pm
Instead of calling it "Speed Week" or some other catchy tune, why not just call it what itRead More really is "Power Trip Week".

Ladies....please be careful! Don't leave your purse for a split second in a shopping cart. Only takeRead More your license and credit card that you plan to use. These theifs can turn your life upside down in a split second. Watch who is leaving the store the same time as you, look to see who is standing around and try to have someone with you if possible. According to a post on the Yahoo Group Nyack Social Scene, La Fontana was going to charge $10 extraRead More for brunch this Sunday because it is Palm Sunday AND a Street Fair day. Names of those arrested, unless minors are public record. So, what is the reason for theRead More "Corporate Policy" .....I can't wait to hear this one.......
NoName April 11, 2014 at 08:55 am
Why is that a policy to not publish names of people arrested for Misdemeanors? That makes no senseRead More at all. Alleged rapitst names get published all the time without nary a scintilla of trial evidence or guilty plea. How is that someone unproven of guilt , possibly by a vindictive or coniving woman(Not saying they are innocent but always the possibility) can be dragged into the mud forever? They never print a retraction in newsmedia? Just curious. Google that person and forever he is an alleged rapist.

Sad days for journalism when you cannot finish the job. Even the Urinal News puts names in theRead More police blotter...and often for misdemeanors.

AND...my objection to our Police is that they leave their car motors running - polluting for ages -Read More WAY past the County three minute limit (which no-one seems to know about anyway). Does it really take so long to start up the motor for a chase, ticket, etc.? Rockalnd law is 3-minute idle limit - ice, snow, cold, or heat

I think it's great! Should be a priority everywhere, not just the highways. Might make someRead More enemies here, though that's not my intent. A thought though; how do police give tickets for using mobile devices when they themselves use them while driving without hands-free devices?

For starters I'm sure you meant rehab not AA. Rehab unfortunately for the most part is a joke.Read More There's some success stories but mostly scamming junkies and drug dealers who actually use rehab as a network for buying/selling narcotics. Sorry to rain on the parade but that's the sad truth. What we need is strict drug sentencing and harsher minimum sentencing, not court ordered koombayah programs.
Charles Clewsow April 5, 2014 at 10:01 pm
Actually I did mean AA or NA. Both work. Both are self supporting from their own donations. Both areRead More out of the realm of government who screw up everything they touch. These feel good programs are useless but the press loves it as do the PR people for our overpaid police.

Robert F. You should learn about St Francis of Assisi. But be forewarned, you might be shocked.
Robert F. March 26, 2014 at 01:17 pm
Brad, I am aware of St. Francis' compassion for animals and the annual blessing of the animals, etc.Read More Please do not confuse compassion with this disturbing trend towards exalting animals to the same level as humankind. God gave man dominion over the animals, as explained in Genesis. I'm no biblical scholar, but I think that if you are Christian, then what we are told in scripture supersedes our personal interpretation, which may include the mistaken idea that animals exist on an equal basis with man. I love animals and would never torment, kill or otherwise abuse an animal, but they exist for the use of man as a source of food, beasts of burden, companionship, etc. I just object to this increasing national confusion of priorities and values with respect to human and animal life.
