Patch Sports is looking to cover baseball and softball at all levels this year and with the little league season about to begin we are asking for participation from coaches and board members from across the Hudson Valley. Volunteers cited for saving local Little Leagues money, officiating hundreds of baseball, softball games.
Rockland County District 18 Little League on Wednesday saluted dozens of umpires who volunteered to officiate at hundreds of Little League baseball and softball games in 2011. Ted Loblanco Jr., District 18 umpire coordinator, said that by having many local umpires volunteer their time to officiate at district and regional games, local Little League organizations saved a significant amount money. Loblanco said the increase in volunteerism in 2011 over 2010 is enough that the district organization is planning on returning some fees paid by local Little Leagues. West Nyack Little League hosts barbecue to welcome teams competing in New York State Little League Championship at Dexter Field at Germonds Park.
If you want to see some of New York's best baseball, you don't have to travel to the city. West Nyack Little League is hosting the New York State Little League Championship at its complex at Germonds Park in West Nyack, with play scheduled to begin today at 5:30 p.m. The tournament is part of the "Road to Williamsport" - with the winner continuing in regional competitions that lead to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa. The volunteer organizers of West Nyack Little League on Wednesday sponsored a party at Germonds for the teams particpating in the tournament, including Rockland County's own team from Stony Point.
