Orange County man tried to get $3,000 from Stony Point bank branch.
An Orange County man has been sentenced to six years in state prison for attempting to rob a Stony Point bank. Ryan Hayes, 20, of 58 Laurel Road, Highland Falls, pleaded guilty on Aug 15, to first-degree attempted robbery in connection with a May 10, 2010, incident at the TB Bank branch at 82 S. Liberty Drive. In addition to the prison sentence, Rockland County Court Judge Charles Apotheker sentenced Hayes to serve 2 ½ years in post-release supervision when he gets out of prison. District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe said Hayes gave a threatening handwritten note to a bank teller that directed the teller to give him $3,000. The local organization marked the opening of its new equestrian center in Stony Point.
This past Friday afternoon saw the opening of Camp Venture's newest endeavor: the Sen. Thomas Morahan - Ken Freson Therapeutic Equestrian Center. Located in Stony Point, the center will provide a long-awaited home for Camp Venture's equestrian program. Camp Venture has been an important fixture in Rockland County's landscape since it's founding in 1969. It serves Rockland residents who are faced with developmental challenges and furthers their cause through advocacy initiatives. This new center is underwritten by Venture Foundation Ltd, through private donations and a $200,000 grant from the late state Sen. Thomas Morahan, R-New City. Forecasters are saying that Friday will debut sunny skies with a high of 70. With this recent bout of rain and chilly weather, this Friday will be a great backdrop for a special event in the town of Stony Point. The afternoon will feature the dedication of Camp Venture's brand new Therapeutic Equestrian Center.
