New City Library Staff Still Without Signed Agreement

The New City Library Staff Association has been working without a current agreement since 2011. The association’s pending contract with the library would cover from 2011 to 2015. On Thursday, the board tabled a motion to vote on the contract pending receipt of a letter from their labor attorney confirming the proposed contract conforms to the memorandum of agreement. Association President Karen Vetrano had expected the board to vote to resolve the issue. “I just want to remind you it’s been almost two years,” she told them. The labor lawyer had been expected to attend an April board meeting that was cancelled and he was not asked to reschedule. The board’s next monthly meeting is June 13 but Board President Tom Ninan indicated he would be willing to call a special meeting so trustees could vote on the contract after receiving the attorney’s opinion. Three board members must sign the agreement along with three members of the staff association.
