'No Respect for the Parents': Residents, Lawmakers Respond to Attorney's Tirade

Parents and students turn out in droves on the heels of last week's lawyer tirade caught on film.

A crowd Monday night gathered to condemn the attorney for the East Ramapo School Board—Chris Kirby—almost one week after Kirby was caught on film swearing at and threatening parents in a parking lot.

The protest was held prior to the school board's meeting to discuss Chris Kirby's verbal tirade, and possible consequences.

Despite the overwhelming turnout, the school board called for an executive session just as the meeting kicked off, effectively forcing parents and students out of the room.

Assembly members Ken Zebrowski and Ellen Jaffee Monday night penned letters to the East Ramapo school board, urging the group to sever its contract with Minerva and D'Agostino, the firm that employs Kirby and works alongside the school.

The two lawmakers note they first wrote to the board earlier this year, when an attorney with the same firm was accused of directing foul language toward a child who spoke at a school board meeting.

"Now, less than four months later, another attorney at this firm, Mr. Kirby, was caught on camera cursing, disrespecting, and verbally abusing a parent who had spoken at the meeting," the letter reads.

"It is readily apparent that this law firm has no respect for the parents of the school district, community or our system of elected representation," the letter continues. "We believe the only appropriate action for your board to take is to immediately condemn and terminate the contract of this firm."
