Nanuet Super Community Blood Drive

Nanuet High School is the location for the Super Community Blood Drive from 2 to 8 p.m. All donors will be entered into a sweepstakes for one pair of tickets to this year's Super. The 2014 Super Bowl Committee is partnering with NYBC to help increase blood donations leading up to Super Bowl XLVIII. Appointments suggested but walk-ins are welcome. Rockland County Legislative Committee Meeting 

The legislature’s Budget & Finance Committees will review the proposed Mental Health Department budget for 2014. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at 11 New Hemstead Road in New City and is open to the public.

Thanksgiving Party At West Nyack Library

Rockland County Legislative Committees

A joint meeting of the legislature’s Planning & Public Works and Budget & Finance committees is being held to review the proposed Capital Projects budget for 2014. The meeting starts at 7:10 p.m. at 11 New Hemstead Road in New City. The county’s public safety radio communications is also listed as an agenda item.  

The Budget & Finance Committee is expected to meet immediately afterwards to discuss the salary reduction proposal for the county executive and county clerk’s positions for 2014. The measure put forward by County Executive–Elect and Legislator Ed Day calls for a 10 percent cut in both salaries. The committee is expected to set a date for a public hearing for a local law to amend the county’s Code of Ethics to allow electronic filing of financial disclosure statements.

New City Library Board of Trustees Budget Hearing

The New City Library Board of Trustees will hold a hearing on the proposed budget for the West Nyack and New City libraries from 8 to 9 p.m. at the New City Library at 220 North Main Street in New City.

Orangetown Patriots Cheerleading Fundraiser

The Orangetown Patriots Cheerleading teams are holding a fundraiser from 7 p.m.  to 11 p.m. at Noonan’s at 16 East Central Ave in Pearl River, NY. $20 admission will help pay for the Midget and Junior Midget squads trip to Disney for the National Cheer Competition.

Wednesday, Nov. 27 

Early Dismissals and Closings

The Nanuet and New City libraries both close at 5 p.m. and are closed Thursday, Nov. 28. The New City Library will reopen on Friday at 11 a.m. The Nanuet Library remains closed on Friday and will reopen on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Students in the Clarkstown School District will be dismissed early today starting at 10 a.m. with the high schools. Find early release times here.

22nd Annual Turkey Trot

The Rockland Road Runner s 22nd  Annual Turkey Trot at Rockland Lake State Park is expected to have more than 3,000 runners and walkers. Wheelchair races begin at 8:15 a.m. and runners at 8:30a.m. but participants must arrive before 7:30 a.m. in order to get parking. The race benefits the Marissa Fund to fight childhood cancer. Participants are asked to bring food donations for People to People. Go here for pre-race and day of race registration information.

Help Needed For The Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinner In Haverstraw

The Haverstraw Committee’s Free Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinner begins at 11 a.m. at the Quisqueya Sports Club at 25-27 Broadway in Haverstraw. Food items and donations are still being collected and needed volunteers are needed. For their 19th consecutive year, the Haverstraw Committee for Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinner plans to provide more than 800 families with warm dinners on Thanksgiving. About 300 of those dinners are home deliveries to seniors and about 50 turkeys will be given to families in need. To find out how to help, go here.

Jump n' Glow Nights

Try out the brand new Jump n' Glow Nights at Bounce! Trampoline Sports at 612 Corporate Way in Valley Cottage. Admission costs $15 for all ages from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Everything inside Bounce! will change to glow in the dark thanks to laser lights and black lighting and creates a whole new fun atmosphere with rockin’ music and glow in the dark balls and hula hoops.
